To the editor:
I just want to thank all those generous blood donors who unselfishly give of themselves time and time again to help others. Early this month there were two blood drives on Pine Island. I noticed the Big Red Bus from Florida Blood Services in the Winn-Dixie parking lot on Friday, May 31, and the next day Saturday, June 1, we had our Lee Memorial Health System purple bus in the parking lot at the Pine Island Moose. I know our drive at the Moose did well recruiting donors, as I am sure did the FBS Drive.
Every time a unit of blood is donated, it helps at least two people. The unit is split into red cells and plasma, both of which are vital life-saving components in not only trauma recovery, but also in the treatment of anemia and clotting disorders.
To all those donors who participated in the two recent blood drives, and to all donors who have ever donated blood in the past, I commend you and thank you for giving up your blood and your time to help others who are in need. You are all heroes and we are all very proud of you.
