Lena Lippmann said her passion for hair began as a young child.

"I was always doing hair as a little kid," she said. "I used to get in trouble for it."

Her career began in New Jersey as a hairdresser before moving to Pine Island and opening her own shop in 1993.

"It's been a lot of fun," Lippmann said. "You meet a lot of people."

The best part of the last 47 years, she said, is it did not feel like work.

June 15 is Lippmann's last day as the owner and hairdresser of Salon LA.

"It's time, it's time to do other things," she said of the reason she decided to retire.

She plans on filling her retirement with traveling, going out on the boat, going fishing, as well as going kayaking. Lippmann said she wants to fill her time with the reason why they live on Pine Island - the perks of having the water close by.

The salon was sold to a new owner, making the transition smooth while keeping the doors open between owners.

On Tuesday, June 18, new owner Patricia Mackenzie will take over Salon LA with hairdresser Christine Karon.

"She's really good," Lippmann said of Karon.
