It’s time to move on to other adventures

June 5, 2013
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

It is with very mixed emotions that I write this letter. As most of you know, I had sold Gulf Coast Kayak that I ran for many years in Matlacha, last year. I have been working just doing guided kayak tours for some of the outfitters and island resorts. I have been keeping busy and appreciate the work, and will continue to do so in season. Should you like a tour, please call me at 941-661-8229 and I will set it up for you.

I am now in the process of downsizing and selling my home so my wife and I can go on the road in the off season, camping and traveling. So, as I approach the age of 70 and I think about all the many subjects and adventures I have written about kayaking in Southwest Florida and around the world, I find that I have enjoyed it and have just about covered it all. But I believe that the time has come for me to stop writing and move on to other unknown great adventures.

I want to thank all my readers and clients for your continued support, and hope you will still like to go for a kayak tour with me some day.

That all said, I will say once again, thanks for paddling with ...

Mel the Guide,

Your Yak or Mine
