To the editor:
I have lived in St. James City for approximately 12 years. I have always said, I don't want to live anywhere else because the people on Pine Island are the friendliest,
Recently, I had an occasion to confirm this feeling once again. My mail delivery person, Lonnie Hendricks, has always been helpful with delivering my mail to me no matter where I live or work. I have moved a couple times and have had a couple different businesses on the island! He found a letter addressed to a person with a similar name as mine, and similar street number. Even though someone had marked the envelope "no such person, return to sender," Lonnie had a hunch. He brought it to my office and said, "I thought this might belong to you and looked like something you might want." Well, that was an understatement. It was a card from a childhood friend I have not seen in over 40 years. We had reconnected by mail once before, but we both had moved and once again lost contact.
I phoned her right away and after a couple very long conversations, catching up on the past, she has booked a flight to come to Pine Island next month.
I can't begin to express what a special person Lonnie is; to have gone to the trouble of not letting this letter go back undelivered. Lonnie confirms my belief in this island as to the people that make it what it is.
Lonnie, you are a very special person and thank you again for your effort and kindness!
