The Matlacha Mariners Community Relations Committee donated $5,000 to the Matlacha Hookers scholarship fund April 8.
Matlacha Mariners Community Rela-tions Committee Chairman Rick Williams said the Hookers' scholarship program is a worthy cause, which is one of the reasons why they decided to donate the money.
He said it gives them the opportunity to further assist a program that attracts the same individuals as they do for their scholarship program.

In addition, Williams said the Hookers also provide a great deal of support for their functions, which is another reason they wanted to donate money to their scholarship fund.
"We couldn't do events without their involvement," he said.
Matlacha Hookers Scholarship Committee Co-Chair Dee Hanks said the donation will allow them to give more money then they have been able to in recent years to the recipients.
Matlacha Hookers Madam DJ Ruscik said she believes they began awarding scholarship in the early 2000s.
"The amount for each one had been $1,000 until recent years," she said.
Ruscik said they have awarded roughly $53,200 in scholarships to 51 individuals since the scholarship program began.
