A seven-and-a-half year member of the Lee County Sheriff's Office has been arrested and charged with possession of steroids, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Deputy First Class John Eaton of Fort Myers was booked into the Lee County Jail around 10 p.m., on Monday, April 8. His bond was set at $3500 dollars.

Earlier Monday, detectives with the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit obtained a sworn statement revealing the suspected drug use and possession. A search warrant was obtained and served at the deputy's residence. Detectives recovered three vials of Testosterone Enanthate, one empty vial of Testosterone Enanthate, one vial of Nandrolone Decoanate and needles to inject the steroids, according to a statement issued by the Lee Count Sheriff's Office Tuesday. They were found in his bedroom. In the master bathroom, a green leafy substance, which tested positive for marijuana, was found on the sink along with an aluminum can altered to smoke the illegal substance. The investigation reveals the deputy used the illegal substances as recently as two days prior to his arrest, the release states.

Eaton has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.

His photo, address and date of birth were not released as the information is exempt under Florida law and the deputy has requested confidentiality in writing, officials said.

Eaton joined the Sheriff's Office in September of 2005 and was most recently assigned to patrol in the City of Bonita Springs until placed on leave Monday night.
