Chris Ann (Campbell) Nelson, 63, of Mackinaw City and formerly of Pine Island and Mount Pleasant, Mich., passed away peacefully Monday, March 4, 2013, at her home overlooking her beloved Mackinac Bridge. She was born April 21, 1949, to Ron and Shirley (Herring) Campbell. On June 6, 1970, she married Burton Nelson in the chapel at Central Michigan University and they made their home and raised their family in Mt. Pleasant.
She enjoyed traveling, sewing, making friends and playing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sharing her love of art and Michigan history as a teacher at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Academy and as an employee in all three Mackinaw Area Historical Parks.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Burton; four children, Cheryl (Kevin) Priest of Shepherd, Mich.; Bryce (Suria) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Carol (Daniel) Shaw of White Salmon, Wash., and John (Danielle) of Lansing, Mich.; one brother, Bill (Ginger) Campbell; one sister, Page (James) Stambaugh; 10 grandchildren (Taylor, Walker, Bear, Kadence, Amya, Willow, Juneau, Charles, Nelson and Lila); and many nieces, nephews and dear friends who will remember her enthusiastic life.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Shirley Campbell; her brother, Ronald Campbell; and a grandchild, Beau.
