Lee County Patriots: Feb. 15
The Lee County Patriots will meet Friday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Matlacha Community Center.
Featured speaker is Ray Budd from the Southwest Florida Chapter of Florida Fair Tax. Fair Tax believes the current federal income tax system is clearly broken - unfair, overly complex (four million plus words), and almost impossible for most Americans to understand. Budd will explain how Fair Tax works and why it should be put in place.
New US Representative Trey Radel is co-sponsoring H.R. 25: Fair Tax Act of 2013.
There will also be discussion of proposed gun control measures and this month's raffle will benefit From Our Hearts.

St. James City Civic Association: Feb. 18
A panel of three real estate brokers will be featured at the 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 meeting at the St. James City Civic Association to discuss the local real estate market. Participating will be Sandy Peculis of Castaway Reality, Mike Shevlin of Century 21 and Terri James of Pine Island Realty. The panel will discuss the local real estate market, values of wet lots and dry lots, the effect of aging homes on current insurance rates and other related topics. There will be time for questions and answers.
This will be an informative and educational program at the St. James City Civic Association at 4th Avenue and Lemon. All persons are invited.
Matlacha Civic Association: Feb. 19
The Matlacha Civic Association is pleased to announce that Commissioner John Manning will be its guest speaker at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Feb 19 at the Art Association building located at the Matlacha Community Park. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is open to all members and the general public.
The MCA would also like to announce it recent selection of officers. The following are the election results; President Michael Gibbons, Co-Vice President Bill Stoelker, Co-Vise President Michael Gordon, Secretary Jennifer Starr and board members Nancy Hindenach, Robert McKnight, Kristine Smock and Jim Young.
All civic meetings are open to the public and residents of Matlacha are urged to join the association. Dues are only $5 a year. We are open to discussions, which effect Matlacha. Don't forget to participate in the community wide Matlacha yard sale scheduled for March 9.
