James Michael "Mike" Rubinski, 59, a Lee County resident since 1956, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, in Cape Coral. He was born July 3, 1953, in Live Oak, Fla., to Anthony Francis Rubinski Sr. and Seney Vivian Rubinski (Girl Cross), now deceased.
Too impatient to arrive on the Fourth of July, he arrived on the third and proceeded to make his own "fireworks" for the rest of his life. He was an athlete throughout his life; remembered for his football prowess in high school and college, which blossomed into mentoring and coaching young athletes, as an adult. He made a name for himself playing both baseball and football at North Fort Myers High School where his jersey (#45) was retired. Local sports fans may remember him as a running back for the Red Knights.
He received a full athletic scholarship to Southern Arkansas University. As a Mule Rider, he was a fullback and running back. He also earned his B.A. in education from Southern Arkansas. In the years following his impressive sports career, he became the successful owner of M.R. III Real Estate and Development Corporation. As well, he had the time of his life coaching soccer and baseball for young athletes.
James Michael “Mike” Rubinski
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Cecilia; three children, Rachel, James Michael and Miles; as well as his two brothers, Tony (Cathy) and Rick (Lisa) and their families.
Memorial services were held noon Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, with Father John Deery officiating. The family received friends prior to the service at the church.
