A quilt was created to showcase the history of Pine Island through various pictures as a raffle item to benefit the Beacon of H.O.P.E.

The chance raffle tickets can be purchased at Stonegate Bank for $5 a ticket or three for $10.

Stonegate Bank Pine Island Vice President Elsie Stearns said the quilt will first be on display at the bank until Nov. 1 before it is moved to the Beacon of H.O.P.E. until it is put on display at the 3rd Annual Holiday House of H.O.P.E. Nov. 28 through Dec. 1.

Tickets can now be purchased for a quilt that will benefit the Beacon of H.O.P.E. that includes historic photographs of Pine Island.

Stearns said they will draw the winning raffle ticket Dec. 1 at 8:30 p.m. at the Tarpon Lodge.

"I'm sure it will be a quilt passed on for generations to come," she said.

Peggy Cozadd, Cassandra Scott, Lee Cankar and Scarlett Player all worked on the photo quilt together.

Cozadd said the quilt is a nine patch pattern that incorporated images from Stevens book "Image of America: Pine Island." She said she chose the pattern because of the 6 1/2-inch pictures that were included.

Player said that Stevens printed the photographs from her computer for the quilt, which received authorization from the families on the island.

This year the Beacon of H.O.P.E. will hold its third annual Holiday House of H.O.P.E. at the Tarpon Lodge from Wednesday, Nov. 28, through Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The event, which is open to the public, will include a different theme in eight rooms, as well as an element outdoors for the men.

"There is something for everyone this year," Stearns said. "It's really going to be a nice event."

Player said this is the Beacon's biggest fund-raising event of the year.
