Fritz J. Costello, 65, of Bokeelia sailed his final journey Sept. 6, 2012. Formerly from Evansville, Ind., he was born Oct. 29, 1946 to Fred and Frieda Costello. The youngest of four children, he grew up working in his family's body shop business. He later owned and operated his own Insurance Appraisal business.
He moved to Bokeelia in 2004, and quickly became an islander. He loved everything the island and the people had to offer. His love for boating and fishing will be remembered by everyone who knew him. He never met a body of water he didn't like. From the Ohio River to Boca Grande Pass, he spent every moment he could on the water.
He was a member of the Army Reserves, and a member of Pine Island's local Moose Club. He was a father, grandfather and just recently great-grandfather. He never met a stranger, and those who knew him loved him dearly. He will be remembered for his amazing talent to fix just about anything. And he was always willing to help a neighbor in need. He was a self-proclaimed bingo caller and marriage counselor. We will all miss his stories, laughs and quick wit. He really lived his life to the fullest.
