Cathy Miner of St. James city wanted to find her family. She was able to go as far back as 1776 when she found her Patriot Samuel Root from Connecticut.
Miner wanted to join the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and knew that she had to provide documentation for all eight generations going back to Samuel Root. She completed her DAR application, sent in all of her documents and was recently accepted into the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Miner is an active member of the Lee County Genealogical Society, which holds monthly meetings at the Pine Island Library and Fort Myers.

At the last meeting, when Joy Morris pinned the DAR pin on Miner, she stated "I am proud to know who I am and to be a daughter of the Daughters of the American Revolution."
