To the editor:
The 2nd Annual Pine Island Health and Safety Fair was once again a huge success. I would like to thank all our wonderful venders and volunteers for attending. The Radiology Regional Center for bringing the Mobile Mammo and the Lee Memorial Health System Blood Mobile for all the wonderful work they do. Our very own Pine Island Fire Department for taking blood pressures and assisting with the cooking and cutting up the watermelon. Ralph Chastain of Chastain Farms for donating all the awesome watermelons. Island Crab Company (Jeff and Denise) for providing all the ice. Lina Quintana from Lee Memorial Health System for having the Kohl's Cares table and providing hotdogs, snacks and drinks. The Red Cross for attending and giving out valuable information to the patrons. Beacon of Hope for participating and handing out information. Once again, Lee Hagen and company for providing the great music. That always makes a great event with live music. Our Lee County Parks and Recreation volunteer, Kim Gerz, for cooking all day and getting the ice and watermelons to the pool.
The pool signed up several children for the summer swim lessons. Please remember there is scholarship money available for non-swimmers. The pool partnerships with the Bobby Holloway Jr. Foundation to help provide free swim lessons. The Matlacha Mariners, along with private donations, help make these free swim lessons possible. Come to the pool Tuesday through Saturday to sign up.
The pool will be open regular hours on Memorial Day for your enjoyment. The summer program hours begin Sunday, June 3, and the pool will be open seven days a week. Any questions, please call 282-2220 and we will be glad to assist you. Thanks again to everyone for attending the event and have a safe summer swim season.
