To the editor:

On behalf of the Beacon of H.O.P.E. board of directors and our many volunteers and employees, thank you to all the people of Pine Island who have supported our mission throughout the years. Whether it is through your purchases or donations at the Thrift Store, your generosity has enabled the Beacon to continue to deliver needed services to clients who live in Matlacha, Bokeelia, St. James City and Pineland.

We now provide such programs as Access, Free Tax Preparation and case management as well as a GED program, English as a second language, Job Links and an after school mentoring program for at risk students. We also serve Meals on Wheels to seniors in our community, provide AARP job training and host numerous wellness programs.

The Thrift Store provides more than 60 percent of all funds for these programs, the balance coming from the United Way, as well as local organizations and community foundations.

The Thrift Store (aka The Pine Island Attic) will be closed Mondays from Memorial Day, May 28, through Labor Day, Sept. 3. We will be open Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Community programs will continue to be open Monday through Friday.

We ask that you restrict your donations of gently used items to store hours only as rainy season is now upon us.

I would also remind you that we can no longer accept mattresses, box springs, TVs or computer monitors.

Again, Thank you for all that you do for our community.

Ray West

Thrift Store manager
