Next month's roster of activities at Pine Island Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adults:
Boat Goat: Memories of Pine Island Sound Florida: 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1 - Boat Goat's descriptions of the islands, schools, a floating hotel, the telling of A Hurricane Tale, and a pirate story, help paint a picture of what life was like for folks in this isolated paradise.
Come drift along with author, Capt. Kirk Walter, as he recounts his process of writing this fascinating book.
Art with Mel: 11 a.m. Friday, May 11. Local artist Mel Meo will be at the Pine Island Public Library teaching and demonstrating her unique artistic style.
Book Discussion: Patricia Wood's "The Lottery:"1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24 - In a world where judgment calls are made without thought, one should meet Perry L. Crandall, a mentally challenged man who wins 12 million dollars in the Washington State lottery. This delightful, sweet, man-child, who assures you he is not retarded, is far smarter than those with acquired degrees.
Patricia Wood created the dearest character and wrote consistently in his "voice". In Perry's world, we should all get what we want, and while life is not always that way, he makes us see how simple it is to get that which is truly worthwhile. Like The quote by Oscar Wilde "Ordinary riches can be stolen: real riches cannot." This is a heartwarming story with many life lessons that can be learned by all.
