The 2nd annual Pine Island Pool Health and Safety Fair will be held next month for the community to gain knowledge and seek out resources on various topics. The event is free.
Last year the event attracted approximately 200 people throughout the day.
Sandy Reynolds, Pine Island Pool aquatic supervisor, said the fair is being held for the community to get everyone ready for the summer months, along with teaching kids how to swim. She said they will sign kids up for swimming lessons that day to get them ready for the summer.
Scholarships are available for those families that cannot afford to sign their child up for the lessons. Reynolds said the community has been very supportive in providing the funds to help the children.
"It is our way to give back to the community," she said of why they decided to hold the fair.
Various vendors will also surround the pool under white tents May 12 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They will include the Pine Island Fire Department, which will be doing blood checks and fire safety; Red Cross; Safe Kids Coalition; Blood Mobile; Beacon of Hope and Radiology Regional Mobile Mammo.
