George Kenneth Lane passed away peacefully at his home on March 31, 2012, at the age of 78.
He was born in Rochester N.Y., to George M. Lane and Eva Kellogg Lane,
He was a Korean War era Army veteran, serving in the National Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., from 1953 to 1955. He joined the Rochester, N.Y., Police Department where he reached the level of sergeant during a 32-year career. Soon after retiring, he relocated to Pine Island, where he remained for the rest of his life.
He loved being on the water, boating and fishing. He created many different articles in his woodworking shop which he gave as presents to his many friends and family. He attended the United Methodist Church of Pine Island for many years. He helped found Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and was sober for 26 years.
He is survived by his partner, Margery Runyan of Pine Island; a brother ,Ed Lane of Largo, Fla.; a sister, Beverly Brumann of North Carolina; two daughters, Maryl Thompson of Wyoming and Rebecca Pinella of Rochester, N.Y.; four sons, Mark, Danny and Derek Lane, all of Rochester, N.Y., and Kurt Lane of Maine; and 14 grandchildren.
Per his wishes, a future memorial service will be held in Rochester, N.Y.
