To the editor:
Thanks to the Eagle for the recent story (3/14) about the Charlotte Harbor/ Bocilla Seaport Parks' annual reunion.
Your article led to our third reunion Sunday (3/25) being an outstanding success - many former residents were able to reconnect and lots of memories and photos were shared.
Special thanks to the Tropic Isle Resort, for hosting the event, and especially to manager Kristie Carver. The annual reunion was initiated by current residents of Tropic Isle who had previously lived in the two parks located beyond Captain Con's restaurant in Bokeelia. Originally a fishing village, and then mobile home/RV resorts, both Charlotte Harbor parks were closed by the owner in 2003, and most of the people were able to relocate to Tropic Isle or other homes on Pine Island.
Thank you also to the planning committee: Nora Bridges, Joyce Cartwright, Shirley Hernly and Shirley McCabe, and to the many others who contributed to this wonderful event.
Although some of our old friends are now gone, the annual reunion helps to keep alive the relationships, the wonderful memories, and the precious history of old Bokeelia.
