Many families started trickling in right after the gates opened at Pine Island Elementary School Friday night to enjoy the third annual Spring Fest, which which featured a number of activities for the youngsters to do.

Pine Island Elementary School Principal Robert Mazzoli said they began the Spring Fest three years ago because they wanted to give back to the community.

Mazzoli said Friday night was all about providing a good time for the families for an affordable price. The kids had the opportunity to go down a large inflatable slide, play laser tag, go through a bounce house maze, jump in a bounce house, make a wax hand, along with trying a hand at many other game centers that were set up around the basketball court and under the pavilion.

Second grade student Marza Hiatt said this was the second time she attended the Spring Fest.

"You get to see a lot of friends and other teachers," she said of why she enjoys the event.

One of the first activities Marza did was make a sand art dolphin. She said she enjoys doing sand art because of all the different things you can choose from.

Her father Rob said he loves the Spring Fest because he likes seeing everyone.

"Everyone is friendly and happy," he said about the great atmosphere of the event. "It gets us out of the house."

Angela Brown also attended the event with her children shortly after the gates opened. She said she has attended the event all three years.

"I think it's good for them," Brown said. "It's cheap entertainment for them."

Her son Dakota, 10, was busy running from one laser tag dome to another having a good time. His mother said he enjoys the laser tag the most.

"It's good," she said of the event.
