To the editor:
The St. James City Civic Association celebrated its 49th birthday at 3300 4th St., St. James City, last Sunday. We want to thank The Burnt Out Band; the St. James Creek Band; J. D. of The Waterfront Restaurant; our own Kristen and Stephen, who recruited our wonderful pig roasting volunteers; and our SJCCA volunteer hosts and hostesses. Thank you to the Eagle for putting us in the events column.
SJCCA works and plays without a single governmental tax dollar of support! Over the 49 years, our building has hosted events for many Greater Pine Island fund-raisers: for example MOTI Rummage Sales, the Lions Club, the PI Chamber of Commerce, AARP taxes, Breast Fest, Homeowners Associations, Calusa Land Trust meetings, fall, winter and spring festivals, Art Expo - all without charge to sponsoring 501(c) organizations.
The SJCCA is activity driven: Exercise Classes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 8:30 a.m. (Jodee 283-4790); Card Clubs including five different bridge games (282-0012), pinochole, euchere, cribbage; Golden Brush Art Group and workshops Tuesday 10 a.m. (Linda 283-5207); the longest continuing Hobby Club in Florida on Wednesday 8:30 a.m. (Dot Birmingham 283-2124); ping pong (Cindy 282-9478); PotLuck (Helen Gambee 558-5797); Hotshots Photography (David Priest 282-2216); Women to Women Discussions/Programs (Lynn Sarda 283-4095); and Monthly Speaker's program. We also have Dragon Boat Racers, Contra Dancers, dinners and parties as well as Pickin' in the City alternating Sunday afternoons (Cindy 282-9478). And remember, there's bingo every Wednesday nite at 6:30 (Ruth Shreve 283-8483).
We are glad to be a community center for greater Pine Island. On behalf of the SJCCA Board of Directors, we thank one and all for continuing to support our building and operation.
President of the SJCCA
