To the editor:
Having read the Pine Island Eagle of March 7, I feel it prudent to clarify some information that was included in one letter that stated "it is my understanding that each organization must register with the Chamber of Commerce the date and purpose of its event." It is not required by the Chamber that organizations or members "register" an event with us, nor are they limited to only one event per year. We do ask all our members - businesses and organizations alike - to send us the details of their events so we can post them on the Chamber's Event Calendar on the website. We also encourage members to contact us when planning events, in order to check the calendar to see if other events have been scheduled for the tentative date they are considering for the event. During season especially, it can happen that several events take place on the same day, and we can understand the concern by business owners who are asked to contribute or participate in multiple events. Many organizations schedule events specifically during "season" in order to draw a larger attendance than might be able to attend during the summer months, thus making it seem that everything is crammed into a two- or three-month period.
