To the EMTs/Paramedics and Fire personnel at PI Center

February 8, 2012
Pine Island Eagle

To the Editor:

This is a heartfelt thank you for your quick response and efforts to save John (Buster) Pilkington of 5938 Eastling Drive in the early morning hours of Jan. 27. You gave chest compressions for over 20-25 minutes and although we thought to halt you, we did not interrupt your efforts. As a result, you received a pulse and transported him to Cape Coral Hospital. Again, we wondered if we had done the right thing by allowing you to continue.

We now realize it was the right thing even though he was 90 years old and in poor health. As a family, we were able to say our goodbyes and make the decision to remove the ventilator and discontinue and further life-saving efforts. Thank you for this opportunity. Your contributions to the community cannot possibly be measured.

The Pilkington Family
