Lucile Busbee Long, formerly of Mount Dora and then Bokeelia since 2008, was born in Bonaire, Ga., in Houston County Sept. 21, 1928, to George Solomon and Leonora White Busbee, the last of their seven children. She passed into life with Christ on Dec.30, 2011.
She was raised on the family farm in Kathleen, Ga., and later moved to Macon, Ga., where she worked behind the glove counter at Davidson's. From there she worked as a telephone operator, plugging in the lines and saying, "Number, please."
A World War II war bride, she met and married her husband, Alton Long (pre-deceased) in Macon, Ga. After the war, they moved to Oviedo, Fla., where the couple began their lifelong work as employees for A. Duda & Sons.

Lucile retired early from Duda as an office manager to their lakeside home in Mount Dora, Fla. There she fished off the dock and enjoyed gardening, crafts and painting the woodwork projects that her husband crafted. She later moved to Bokeelia.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Long of Bokeelia; her grandson, Jason Scott Foures (Kristen) of Savannah, Ga.; her cousin, Houston White of Paisley, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and family members whom she loved dearly.
