Calusa Ridge homes are island style with metal roofs and large front porches.

Roger Schutt, managing partner of Calusa Ridge LLC, in partnership with Southwest Florida Homes, explained the developers' philosophy.

"We are excited to be on Pine Island and are committed to keeping a natural look to the community," he said. "We laid out the lots to minimize tree and vegetation removal for building. Every lot is at least an acre in size and has an additional preservation buffer of at least 30 feet around it."

During a recent grand opening, visitors toured a three-bedroom plus den model home with pool and preserve view. Homes in the gated community are island style with metal roof, front porch and a grand entrance and range from 1,600 to 3,000 square feet. Prices start at $179,900.

"Residents will enjoy the stocked, six-acre pond and the abundance of wildlife, including gopher tortoises in a designated preserve, and eagles and osprey which fish in the pond," Schutt said. "The lifestyle here is all about serenity and peacefulness."

The Calusa Ridge sales center, located at 12401 Stringfellow Road in Bokeelia, is open daily from noon until 4 p.m. For more information, call 239-282-2001, 239-887-1200 or visit
