Ben R. Matson, 71 , of Cape Coral passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011. He was born on January 9, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Ben and Myrtle Matson. After retiring from truck driving Ben spent the last 16 years full-timing in his RV traveling extensively, especially out west. He was a lifelong outdoorsman with a love for hunting with his dogs. An avid boater and fisherman of all the Great Lakes, Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, Lake Mead, San Juan Islands, Florida Keys, Pine Island Sound and many more big blue dots on the map in between. He loved riding his ATV in the mountains of Utah.
Ben is survived by his son, James (Beverli) Carlton; granddaughters Laura (Roger) Patterson, Jamie Carlton; great grandchildren Jordan and Jeffrey of IL; nephews: Keith (Debbie) Kmichik of N.M., Craig (Lisa) Kmickik of IL; nieces: Randi and Daynie DeYoung and Andrea Fitzgerald of KY; and loving family, Jean Schmitt, Dana Schmitt, Mark and Lane Schmitt, John Bishop, along with faithful canine companions Hoot and Charlie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Myrtle Matson; and sisters Muriel Kmichik and Hazel DeYoung . Ben will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
