Pine Island C.E.R.T. seeking financial assistance from the island community
April 5, 2011
After Hurricane Charley and the other storms of 2004 and 2005, it became apparent that Pine Island needed additional trained citizens to assist our professional emergency workers from our Fire and Sheriff Departments during a major emergency.
In response to that need, Pine Island C.E.R.T. was formed. C.E.R.T. members are trained to respond, alongside professional emergency personnel, to catastrophic emergencies on Pine Island.
Our C.E.R.T. members, who now number approximately 40, have been trained in first aid, search and rescue, traffic control, and emergency communications. These trained citizens are ready to respond, at a moment’s notice if called upon, to support and assist our professional emergency workers.
This program is made possible through the support and funding from local businesses, organizations, and individuals.
As we continue our training, we are asking for your help. C.E.R.T. needs funds in order to supply our members with necessary equipment and to cover the costs of educational materials. All donations will be used strictly for these purposes.
If you would like one of us to give a brief presentation to your membership describing the work we do, we would be happy to do so. You can call Fire Chief David Bradley and let him know of your interest and he will make the arrangements.
Your consideration and response to our plea is greatly appreciated. As a non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible. Checks may be made out to Pine Island C.E.R.T. and mailed to C.E.R.T. in c/o the Pine Island Fire Department, 5700 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia, FL 33922.
We thank you for any support you are able to provide!
