Promising to “Treat your pet like royalty” Puppy Palace is now open to take care of island pet grooming needs. Opening its doors on Monday, Aug. 9, the Puppy Palace is at the corner of Pine Island Road and Betsy Parkway across from the Pine Island water company.
All animals are groomed and cared for by Jacky Sassen and Nic Spyrnal.
Sassen is a certified professional groomer who has worked alongside other professionals for several years and is familiar with the specialty clips for nearly every dog breed.
“I can do just about anything our customers want and have clipped many different breeds of dogs,” said Sassen. “But it isn’t always about the cut, and we make sure that we take the time to give the dog everything it needs. On occasion we will have a dog that just needs a break from grooming so we provide a quiet place for the pet to rest until he or she is ready to continue. We will never groom animals in an assembly-line fashion, we will be sure to provide all of our clients with the one-on-one attention they need.”
While Sassen said she will not rush her grooming customers she will schedule them so that each pet is groomed in a timely manner.
Puppy Palace will not limit services to just canines and will also groom other pets as well including cats, birds and other animals.
“I have had the opportunity to groom nearly every kind of of pet imaginable,” said Sassen. “I even gave a bath to a customer’s pet raccoon once. That was quite the experience.”
Sassen also expressed her appreciation to the owners of the Puppy Palace, George and Cindy Spyrnal.
“Cindy and George have been wonderfully encouraging and we couldn’t possibly make this successful without them,” Sassen said. “Cindy has been hands on in so many ways including helping us to lay tile, paint and promoting the new business.”
Cindy and George Spyrnal, are very encouraged by by Sassen’s passion and enthusiasm for pets and grooming.
“Jacky is extremely talented and professionally experienced. I have seen how she handles the dogs and we have come to calling her the ‘pet whisperer’ because she has a way of knowing how to handle each individual pet,” said Spyrnal. “We treat everyone like royalty and we want them to have the best experience possible because we know everyone loves their pets the way we do.”
Offering a number of incentives, Sassen hopes to increase her customer base.
“We are doing several things to thank our customers, one of which is offering a customer $10 off of a grooming when we gain a new customer from a referral,” said Sassen. “We also will be having a monthly drawing for special gifts, punch cards for additional savings and are also asking people to bring in photos of their pets to place on our glamour board.”
Sassen also added that as the business builds she will bring in retail pet supplies as well. Sassen also said that all of the equipment at Puppy Palace is new, state-of-the-art and is sterilized each day.
“We felt there was a real need to open at grooming business at the center. We had heard that there were many people who take their pets off-island to be professionally groomed and we feel confident that we can capture that cliental,” Spyrnal said. “The response we have gotten so far indicates that our feelings were correct and we want to thank local businesses and all the island residents that have been so supportive of our effort.”
Puppy Palace is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 243-1281 and walk-ins are welcome.
