Pine Island FISH has just completed another record setting year. Thanks to the support of you and many other Islanders like you, we were able to assist many people/families in need. Your contributions along with the hard work of FISH volunteers made all this possible. As there is no real sign of the economy improving quickly we forecast for 2010 to be another year full of need. We ask for your continued support as we try to give fellow islanders a hand up. This past year we had to dip deeply into our reserves and spend approximately $6,000 more than was donated. Therefore we ask for your help; as you plan your 2010 giving, please consider FISH so that we can continue a high level of support for our fellow Islanders.

Here is a summary of the things your donations made possible during the past 12 months:

— We provided rent assistance to 51 families.

— We provided assistance with utility bills for 86 families.

— We provided new school clothes for 117 children (we were joined in this effort by many islanders who “adopted” children)

— We provided new Christmas gifts for 227 children.

— We provided gift cards to assist with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to 146 households (the Food Pantry and The Hookers joined us in this effort)

— We provided transportation to many islanders who had no way to get to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, etc.

— We loaned over 250 pieces of medical equipment to island residents.

The list gives you a good idea of what FISH volunteers accomplished through your donations. We ask that you help us in this effort again for 2010. How? The two best ways are to become a volunteer yourself (if you are not already) by contacting FISH at 283-4442 and asking to be contacted OR by making donations to the organization.
