Lovegrove Gallery and Garden introduces ‘Matlacha Night Lights’

December 8, 2009

Ringing in the holiday season, the skies and palm trees looming over Lovegrove Gallery and Garden will illuminate the night with an “over-the-top” lighting display from Dec. 12 through Dec. 31. Lovegrove’s magical garden “Leopi-ville” will welcome visitors to the continuous display while holiday music fills the air from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each evening with the only exception being Dec. 25. While visiting Lovegrove’s, all are welcome to enjoy fireside snacks under the stars.

According to gallery owner and artist, Leoma Lovegrove, the Leopi-ville garden is the first environment-friendly gardens in Lee County and features only LED lights. In addition, Lovegrove said that local musicians plan to take the stage spontaneously so each night will offer a new musical surprise to those visiting the garden. In addition, at the top of each hour, all are invited to participate in a sing-a-long Christmas karaoke.

Throughout the holiday season, a shopping corner in the gallery will allow children visitors to choose from affordable gifts suitable for parents, grandparents, teachers, friends and others on their wish list.

A minimal fee will be asked of those entering the garden and for an additional charge, children can paint a Christmas coconut or decorate a coconut planter. Smocks will be available to protect clothing from flying paint and glitter.

To reserve a spot, for tickets or for more information, calls 282-1244 or tickets may be purchased at the door.

A resident of Matlacha, Lovegrove’s works are far reaching as her pieces hang in noted galleries throughout the world. Instantly recognizable, Lovegrove is known for painting images in vibrant colors and unique style. Much of her work depicts familiar faces which include members of the Beetles, Michael Jackson and Vincent Van Gogh, but perhaps her most notable portrait was one she created with the image of former president Jimmy Carter which currently hangs in a museum named after Carter.

Lovegrove has created a museum-quality painting on an enormous 10X16 foot canvas during her well known Paint Out Loud with Leoma Lovegrove series which are completed works in less than an hour while accompanied by the lighting and sound provided by award-winning composer and producer Mark Haffner.
