Contact county commissioners about new zoning today
August 18, 2009
To the Editor:
I can imagine the speculators, large land owners, developers, Realtors, palm growers and their attorneys attending the meeting at the local planning agency of Lee County of July 27, 2009. Are they the people who own all the palm groves along Stringfellow Road (both sides) from St. James City to Bokeelia. The same ones who 20 years ago said, “We just want to grow our trees.”
After destroying the island’s native woodlands, getting tax write-offs for AG, they now want to re-zone for commercial. All the palm groves along Stringfellow? I’ll be. We better support the Land Use Plan and say heck no to the hypocrites. The majority of them have contributed nothing to our community!
Call those commissioners; Bob Janes at 533-2224, Brian Bigalow at 533-2227, Ray Judah at 533-2225, Tammy Hall at 533-2226 and Frank Mann at 533-2225.
The Circle K and Citgo seem to service the island very well. DQ, too. So if you want a Taco Bell, McDonald’s or a pawn shop, take SR 78 and go 14 miles east to Cape Coral. They have plenty of them on both sides of Pine Island Road (empty). Keep our island rural, that’s why we’re here.
To the re-zoners: Same old people, same old story, different time and date. “Greed” is one of the original sins! Get it?
To Mr. Buchanan, thank you for your diligence in keeping islanders informed on these issues. I’m sure the community is grateful. I know I am.
