2008 Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay

Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay for a number of years has been one of the most popular Chardonnays on the market.  Of  lessor renown is the Grand Reserve series, which is indeed a step up from the Vintner's Reserve regular label.  After nearly three decades of producing fine wines, the Grand Reserve label reflects further commitment to making even better wine available to the public.


Last night I prepared my famous Coco van (chicken cooked in wine), and paired it with the 2008 Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay.  What a treat!  The Grand Reserve is not a heavy Chardonnay, so it was perfect with this delicate, yet tasty chicken dish.  The initial aroma of the wine was definitely melon with nuances of other tropical fruits.  The flavor abounded with melon and pineapple, and just a touch of citrus to balance the fruit.  The finish was clean and light, perfect for a refreshing summertime Chardonnay!


The "Wine Advocate" scored this wine a 90.  Mary the "Chardonnay Queen" gave it an 89, and Norm's score was an 88.  My only complaint would be that I would like a little more oak in the finish.


If you decide to make the Coco van, marinate the chicken for at least two hours, using equal parts red and white wine, and a generous amount of garlic. Bon Appetit!
