| | 2007 Wild Horse Pinot NoirJune 18, 2010 - Norman Bentley#23-10-PIE
The Rolling Stones recorded a song called "Wild Horses" which was as pleasant to my ear as the 2007 Wild Horse Pinot Noir is to my palate. This wine has a tremendous amount of fruit with an elegant finish. The fruit is 100% Pinot Noir from vineyards in both Santa Barbara and San Louis Obispo Counties.
The Wine Spectator scored this wine an 89, and I would certainly agree. The big fruit flavors abound with red berries, plum, and blueberry which smack your palate around climaxing in a smooth lightly oaked finish which begs for another sip. This is not a heavy tasting Pinot Noir, but quite elegant with traces of glycerine, which mix with the gobs of fruit to give your mouth that slickery feel.
The specs are 100% Pinot Noir aged in French Oak for ten months, coming in at 13.9% alcohol. You could pair this Pinot Noir with a variety of foods, but we chose to enjoy it with plump boneless chicken breasts, cooked slow on the grill with a sweet, hot and tangey barbecue sauce. It would be equally as good with salmon fillets cooked the same way! So fire up the grill and enjoy a quality Pinot Noir.
Price - $19 - $25
Score - 89
