Mother's Day Shopping on Pine Island
April 28, 2010 - Nancy Koucky
Mother’s Day is coming up, May 9th -- as if the world of American Advertising has not already reminded you. I am putting this suggestion out to my readers early, but even if you are a last minute shopper, be sure to pamper your Mom or yourself this Mother’s Day by shopping locally and buying some beautiful artwork. Frequently I hear that people do not like to buy paintings as a gift … but don’t forget all the other types of art that are great for gift giving.
Chuck and I were in Island Visions the other day and purchased a “We Are Thinking of You” gift for our daughters. We picked up a couple of beautiful, colorful little notepads that would fit in just about any purse! They were only $6.00 and I know these little gems would make a great Mother’s Day treat. Island Visions has lots of other beautiful objects of art that would satisfy the Moms on your gift list – in every price range. Steve has been creating some very unusual and stunning necklaces from glass, shells, watch parts, silver sea creatures and more. His ability to successfully juxtapose seemingly unlike elements results in some amazing pieces.
Jewelry IS a popular gift for Mom’s. In your hunt for the perfect necklace or earring, you have to stop into Trader’s Hitching Post and talk with Cindee and Jerry. Jewelry is their specialty and they have beautiful works by Native American Artists – traditional and contemporary, in a wide spectrum of texture and color. Their sweet little pups will be there to greet you .... give them a pat for me.
Pine Island and Matlacha’s Gallery and Specialty Shops carry jewelry and other perfect gifts for the Mom’s in your life in every price range. Just remember to Keep it Local this Mother’s Day for your Gift Giving and Dining Adventures. We have it all here on Pine Island so let’s take advantage of it!
