2014 Sterling Sauvignon Blanc

January 29, 2016 - Norman Bentley

This past Christmas Eve we enjoyed a fabulous seafood dinner with friends at the Tarpon Lodge out on Pine Island, Florida. We had a variety of seafood delights and a wonderful bottle, or two of the 2014 Sterling Napa Sauvignon Blanc. Looking back, I wondered if it was the food, or the gathering of friends for a special dinner, that made the wine taste so good that night. So we picked up another bottle to taste last night with our grilled salmon weekday dinner.

The Sterling opens with a delicate floral nose, with a slight citrus breeze. The flavors highlight apple and a bit of melon, underscored by a touch of grassy lemon. The finish was clean and crisp, and begged for another sip. Norm's score is 88, but on the night of our special dinner, I might have given it a 90 due to the atmosphere and the companionship of our friends.

This Sauvignon Blanc was great with grilled salmon, and would make an excellent companion for an array of fish and shellfish entrees. Try it sometime with steamed clams or mussels.

price: $11 - $15

score - 88
